Interesting to note the difference in cycle computer reading to map distances. Shows what happens when you put a load on your bicycle and then wheel circumference changes.
Pass some thoughts on accommodation:
Bethal Caravan Park:
Almost in town, giving it a perfect stop over for travelers passing through. Town has a few fast food out lets that can help so there is no need to cook food. There are also one or two big chain stores. However it can be a little of a shock to find that such a big town is so run down.
Back to the camp site. There is a nice green lawn that rolls down to the dams water edge. The ablutions are some what run down. Showing what once was however they are clean. Camping is cheap at R 118 for two.
Morgenzon Hotel:
The town was so run down we thought there might not be a place to stay. There is a main road that goes through he middle of town. Making it sounds like you are near a highway. The hotel is next to this road. The hotel front is sand stone building built about a 100 years ago. There are even rooms that were converted from horse stables at the back. We stayed in a wing of rooms adjoining the old building. High ceilings with soft beds that swallow you up. Was like sleeping on a cloud after using camping mats. Not all is a bed of roses. This hotel is a little run down with a slight musty smell. They have an active bar with pub meals. We ordered a rump steak and to be honest it was out of this world for two hungry cyclists.
Afterwards we did discover that the Agricultural school has a guest house and allows camping also. Looks like that should be booked ahead of time.
Amersfoort:
What a run down town. Stopped at police station to get help to find the camp ground. There was no answer to the telephone number of camp site. Not even the police knew of such a place. They pointed us in the direction of Die Huis guest house. Die Huis are very nice people they even gave us hot chocolate for free. Unfortunately they were full. They helped me to make contact with Pearl Stream. I would recommend calling a head to book in at Die Huis. Here are the contact details: Tel 082 882 8870 or 084 033 2424. Email: diehuis@vodamail.co.za
Pearl Stream is a three star accommodation, little out of town. Has a nice view of river and Amersfoort. Rooms have microwaves with small bar fridge and kettle, with coffee and tea. Nice decor with bedding like a cloud. They have a restaurant, bar, squash court and gym.
